Academic Qualifications
PhD in Demography, Master’s degree in Demography (First Class) and Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics (First Class) from University of Kerala

Major Achievements
Dr. Mohanachandran Nair possesses excellent professional competence, unmatchable research contributions and teaching records in the field of Demography. He has produced 27 Ph. Ds during 1998-2021 and another eight students are currently working under his supervision. He has also guided about 52 MPhil dissertations. During the last twenty five years of his career, he has published 53 research papers in various national/international journals and edited volumes and presented more than 60 papers in various seminars/ conferences. He has been continuing to inspire students and fellow researchers through invited talks in various academic meetings. Dr. Nair has published four books and two books are in press. He also has received Dr.Srinivasn award for outstanding research paper published in Demography India twice (Vol. 38, 2010 and Vol 42, 2013)

He has been heading the Department of Demography, University of Kerala since 1st October, 2009 to 31st May 2021. He took additional charge as the Director of Population Research Centre, University of Kerala on 1st June, 2010. He was instrumental in starting the new courses M.Sc. and M Phil Programmes in Actuarial Science in the Department of Demography, University of Kerala. Workstation for Research on Micro-Data from Census was established in the Department of Demography under his able leadership by signing MoU with Registrar General and Census commissioner of India. The workstation is being utilized not only by the students and faculty but also by the public at large for accessing latest information on census and also to create customized tables using micro-data. He takes initiative in revising the syllabus of both Demography and Actuarial Science courses.

Frequently to update them with latest developments in the respective fields. He has written several articles in local language Malayalam and in English in various Dailies published from Kerala. He also has delivered many speeches and participated in debates in the All India Radio and Doordarshan.

Dr. Nair has got good academic and administrative experience. He has been member of various administrative bodies of the University. He is the Chairman of the Board studies in Demography of the Kerala University and serves as a member of the Board of Studies in other Universities. He is also working as member of the Academic Council of University of Kerala. He was elected member of the Senate (2010-2014) and Syndicate (2011-2014), the supreme administrative bodies of University of Kerala. As a syndicate member, he was Convener of the Research and Academics committee thus contributing to matters of research and academic activities at the University level. He serves as the editor of the International Journal "Janasamkhya", published from the Department of Demography. He has also been engaging as Project Coordinator of various projects in the Population Research Centre and the Department of Demography. With his initiative, 'Dr.Ramakumar Memorial Centre for Population Ageing and Health' is established in the University of Kerala.
